After Elisa fled her village in Mozambique to escape an armed conflict, she and her family had nothing left but the clothes they were wearing. In the midst of the chaos, they noticed the marks on Elisa's skin, but were unable to diagnose and treat her until they found a leprosy volunteer.
"The result of running away from the fight was that he was diagnosed. So even though I had to run away, I'm grateful because we found out he had leprosy and he's going to be fine!" - said the mum.
Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we are able to continue diagnosing children like Elisa and working towards a "zero" infection rate.
We are extremely grateful that Elisa received early treatment!
